Alex Grig was born in Paris from Russian descent, schooled in the USA and educated in France.

Her diversified culture is without doubt responsible for the influence prevailing upon her artistic world, which cannot be truly related to any classified style. Her pen and brush strokes are anecdotic, focused on a somewhat biting humor, fending off into a rhythmical colorful spree.

However, Alex Grig has studied under the strict rules of academic schools. She graduated with honors from the Paris School of Decorative Arts and has been the pupil of such notable artists as André Lhote, Othon Friez, Zadkine, Claude Shurr and Mac' Avoy, at the Academies of "La Grande Chaumière" and "Jullian".

She has taught drawing in Italy, namely Rome, Venice & Positano. Also in New York City.

Meanwhile, the artist had gone through the pangs and anxiety of questioning herself on the meaning of the word "Art". She has since established her style  by realizing that in this world of great liberty, truth becomes: "above all to thine ownself be true".

She has traveled a great deal and for the past years returns regularly to the US where she is commissioned to paint portraits among the Hollywood few, also in Aspen, Washington DC, Chicago, S.F. and New York.

Her art is multi-faceted: subject, matter as well as media: illustration theater decor, giant mosaic walls, to very detailed etchings.

She exhibits in most well known "Grands Salons" in Paris, she made a debut at the FIAC 1979 and has since then shown in different international art fairs, namely Basel (Switzerland) and Cologne (Germany).

Some big one man shows :

- Acropolis, Nice (France), 1988

- La Grange au Lac, Evian (France), 1996

To resume the works of Alex Grig one may say that they are a vision of surrealism in an expressionist painting where the drawn lines are never forgotten as they swerve, move and curl. Where the meaning might be abstract to the mind, but to whomever is willing, they can be led to create and to dream.
